MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team picked up their first win of 2025 Tuesday afternoon as they registered nine innings in the top of the fourth to collect the 13-5, five inning win, over Franciscan University in Central Park beach, Myrtle Beach.

THE BASICS:
  • Team Scores: Morrisville 13, Franciscan 5 (5 Innings)
  • Location: Central Park Beach, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  • Records: Morrisville 1-1, Franciscan 0-1

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville softball had the bats rolling in the top of the fourth inning as they plated nine en route to a 13-5, five inning win, over Franciscan University Tuesday afternoon in the second of the day's action in Myrtle Beach for the Mustangs.
  • Morrisville opened with a four run first inning, with both Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) and Isabella Gaskins (Binghamton, N.Y.) registered double's to left field to drive in two apiece.
  • Franciscan crawled back within one run in the bottom of the second, but the Mustangs got a spark at the plate in the top of the fourth to explode for nine runs.
  • Sara Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y.) led off with a bunt to reach base, before Lindsay Fish (Freeville, N.Y.) reached base and stole second to place Brefka in scoring position.
  • Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) doubled to left to drive in Brefka before Hannah Brennan (Trumansburg, N.Y.) stepped to the plate and singled up middle to plate two runs, extending the Mustang lead to 7-3.
  • After loading bases, Damani Miranda (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded her first collegiate hit, a single down the left field line to score two, before Brefka earned an RBI with her bunt to score Baldwin.
  • Fish followed with a double to center field and Lafontaine added a single in her next at bat, scoring Fish, to deepen the Mustang advantage to 13-3.
  • Franciscan added two runs in the bottom of the inning and held Morrisville scoreless in the top of the fifth, but any Baron attempt to rally in the bottom of the inning fell short as Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) pitched three straight strikeouts to close out the contest and secure the win for the Mustangs.
  • Brefka and Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) each went 2-for-3 from the plate, combining for three runs total and two RBI's apiece.
  • Fish went 2-for-4 for two RBI's and two runs, while Lafontaine also added a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI's total, alongside Baldwin.
  • Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) started on the mound for Morrisville, throwing one inning and allowing two earned runs, before Kaylor relieved the junior transfer and finished out the final four innings with seven total strikeouts.

  • Morrisville's head coach Samantha Guillaume collected her first coaching win with the Mustangs.
  • The Mustangs return to the field Thursday, playing the United States Coast Guard Academy at 9 a.m. before facing Gwynedd Mercy University at 3 p.m.
