Morrisville women challenge #5 Oswego, fall short 3-2

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team battled no. 5 nationally ranked Oswego State Sunday afternoon but dropped the league contest as they fell short in their comeback attempt in Oswego.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey battled back from a three goal deficit Sunday afternoon with two tallies in the second, but were unable to net the tying score as no. 5 nationally ranked Oswego State collected the 3-2 SUNYAC win in Oswego.
  • Oswego scored twice in the opening period with the first tally coming just 2:39 in, before adding a second at the 7:35 mark for the 2-0 lead after one.
  • The Lakers added to their total midway through the second for the 3-0 lead.
  • Morrisville notched back-to-back tallies within 13 seconds of one another late in the second frame, the first a power play score from Madison Tomkins (Windsor, Ont.) off the dish from Meadow Clarke (Middlesackville, N.S.) at 17:52.
  • Clarke again found an open teammate 13 ticks later, this time senior Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.) who brought the Mustangs within one come period end.
  • Both teams battled back-and-forth in the final period of action, but each netminder kept the opponent from posting another tally.
  • Sydney Canham (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded a collegiate high 42 stops in her efforts in net for the Mustangs.
  • Lexi Levy had 26 in net for Oswego in the win.

  • Morrisville hosts Canton for the regular season weekend finale, Friday and Saturday, with both contests facing off at 3 p.m. in Morrisville.
