First period woes lead to Mustang road loss

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's hockey struggled in the first period of Saturday night's action on the road at Oswego State, falling 9-1 come final whistle in Oswego in SUNYAC play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey struggled in the first period of Saturday night's SUNYAC action on the road at Oswego State, falling 9-1 come final whistle to the Lakers.
  • Oswego opened the scoring at the 4:06 mark, before collecting four straight tallies across four minutes of action midway through the period to open a 5-0 gap, adding another seconds before the end of the period for the six goal advantage after the first.
  • Two of their tallies came on the power play.
  • Seven minutes into the second, Ethan Henry (Buffalo, N.Y.) was able to put one on the scoreboard for the Mustangs, burying the pass from Wyatt Allan (Capistrano Beach, Calif.) and Maxim Maziarchuk (Staten Island, N.Y.). on the power play.
  • Oswego, though, responded with their third power play score of the night to regain the six goal lead after two.
  • The Lakers added two final scores in the third, a fourth power play tally nearly six minutes in, before capping off all scoring at 17:51 with their final score of the night.
  • Grant Linville (Edmond, Okla.) recorded 44 saves in the loss, posting a single period high 18 in the first as Oswego held the 24-4 shots on goal advantage in the frame.
