Morrisville women complete sweep of Potsdam series with 3-2 win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team completed the series sweep of SUNYAC rival SUNY Potsdam Saturday afternoon, netting the 3-2 victory to earn the league win on the Mustangs home ice in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey completed the series sweep of Potsdam Saturday afternoon, collecting the 3-2 SUNYAC win over the Bears in Morrisville.
  • Playing to a scoreless first period, Potsdam was able to sneak one past the Mustangs just under a minute into the second to claim the 1-0 lead.
  • Morrisville evened the contest at one at 8:29 as Madison Tomkins (Windsor, Ont.) chipped in the rebound off the initial shot from Avery Holland (Plattsburgh, N.Y.).
  • Kennedy Kirkby (Prescott, Ont.) was credited with the second assist after finding Holland open for the initial shot.
  • Both teams entered the second intermission knotted at one, and within the opening minute, Morrisville took advantage of the carry over penalty from late in the second and claimed the lead with a tip from Kirkby on the crease after the cross-net chip from Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.).
  • Tilly Couture (Bedford, N.S.) also earned an assist on the score.
  • Less than two minutes later, Morrisville extended their lead to two as Amelia Lomas (Millarville, Alta.) deflected the puck into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, giving Morrisville the two-goal cushion with 17 minutes remaining.
  • Alexa Spiers (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Leola Johnson (Whitesboro, N.Y.) registered the assists.
  • In a last-minute effort, Potsdam pulled netminder Magalie Parent for the extra skater and capitalized, making it a one goal game with 1:32 remaining.
  • Potsdam again made the effort with the extra skater across the final 1:22 of the contest, but Morrisville withstood the effort to earn the win.
  • Sydney Canham (Rochester, N.Y.) registered 24 saves in net for the Mustang win.

  • Morrisville returns to the ice Tuesday at no. 10 ranked Cortland for the final regular season meeting between the two programs.
