Dietz scores twice in loss to Canton

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman Tanner Dietz (Mitchell, Ont.) scored twice Friday night to lead the host SUNY Morrisville Mustangs, but it wasn't enough as visiting SUNY Canton men's hockey notched the 5-2 SUNYAC win in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's hockey attempted a comeback effort in the third period, but fell short as visiting SUNY Canton collected the 5-2 SUNYAC win on the Mustangs home ice in Morrisville.
  • Canton jumped out in front 1-0 after a score nearly six minutes into the first, adding a second at 10:37 for the early two goal lead.
  • The Roos took a 3-0 lead 2:43 into the second with a power play score, maintaining the advantage until the 5:43 mark of the third.
  • Tanner Dietz (Mitchell, Ont.) put a tally on the scoreboard for Morrisville at the 5:43 mark of the third period as Mason Losel (Lake View, N.Y.) picked up the assist.
  • Dietz notched his second of the night two minutes later, putting away the pass from Brady Rossbach (New Berlin, Wisc.) and Wyatt Allan (Capistrano Beach, Calif.) to cut the deficit to one.
  • Canton, however, regained the two-goal lead with a tally at 18:41, before collecting their final score of the night in the closing minute of the contest for the 5-2 win.
  • Chad Lowe (Auburn, N.Y.) recorded the loss for Morrisville as he collected 20 saves throughout the contest.
  • Trey Miller posted 21 in the win for Canton in net, while teammate Logan Kelly posted two scores to lead the Roos.
