Morrisville women head into break after road battle at #15 Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team will head into the short Thanksgiving break after a mid-afternoon battle on the road at no. 15 ranked Hamilton College Tuesday.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey battled no. 15 ranked Hamilton College in a mid-afternoon battle Tuesday at the Russell Sage Rink in Clinton, falling in non-league action by a 6-2 final score.
  • Morrisville headed into the break with a 2-1 lead, but a three-goal burst in the second period set the Mustangs back 4-2 heading into the final frame.
  • Scarlett Smith (Etobicoke, Ont.) picked up her fourth goal of the season to put the Mustangs on the board 10:25 in the first, cleaning up the loss puck for the score as Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) and Ava Waugaman (Sandy, Utah) earned the assists.
  • Thirty seconds later, Hamilton evened the score at one with the first of three straight for Sarah Myziuk, but Morrisville retained the one-goal edge at the 18:06 mark with a Tilly Couture (Bedford, N.S.) tally.
  • Leas and Alexa Spiers (Smithtown, N.Y.) were credited with the assists.
  • Hamilton evened the contest at two four minutes into the second period with a second Myziuk score, before the forward added a third to give the hosts their first lead of the game at the 8:21 mark.
  • Hamilton added a third goal of the period late in the frame, before adding two additional tallies in the third to collect the win.
  • Mac Donovan recorded 18 stops in the win for the Continentals, who improve to 3-1-1 overall to date on the season.
  • Gabi Brazeau (Timmins, Ont.) put forth a tremendous effort between the pipes, registering a collegiate high 44 stops across 60 minutes of action.
  • The freshman turned away 19 alone in the third period.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville wraps up the first half of the season next Friday and Saturday as they travel to Vermont to face Norwich University on December 5, followed by Castleton on the 6th.
