Morrisville women shut out Potsdam for SUNYAC win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's hockey team took a 2-0 lead after the first period and didn't look back as they notched a 3-0 SUNYAC win over visiting Potsdam State to record the shut out in league play in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey shut out visiting Potsdam State Saturday afternoon on the team's Make-A-Wish benefit game, collecting the 3-0 SUNYAC win on their home ice in Morrisville.
  • The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead after the first, netting the first tally of the day 6:07 in off the stick of Ava Waugaman (Sandy, Utah) after receiving the puck from Scarlett Smith (Etobicoke, Ont.) and Katelyn Bovee (Hamlin, N.Y.) who were credited with the assists.
  • Seven minutes later, Morrisville tallied a power play goal to take the 2-0 lead, as Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) chipped the puck past the Potsdam netminder for the two-goal advantage.
  • Madison Lawrence (McGraw, N.Y.) and Amelia Lomas (Millarville, Alta.) registered the assists on the tally.
  • Morrisville carried the two-goal lead into the second, where Sydney Canham (Rochester, N.Y.) posted eight stops to keep Potsdam scoreless.
  • Early in the third Leas collected her second goal of the day, burying the dish from Tilly Couture (Bedford, N.S.) and Nora Egri (Budapest, Hun.), extending the Mustang lead to three.
  • Canham turned away another eight Potsdam attempts, including a critical crease stop midway through, enroute to a game total 18 on the day, earning the shut-out victory for the Mustangs.

  • Morrisville will be on the road Tuesday at Hamilton College for a 12 p.m. puck drop in Clinton.
