Morrisville second half comeback falls short in loss to MCLA

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team attempted a second half comeback Sunday afternoon, but their rally fell short as MCLA collected the 84-69 win on the second day of the Purple & Gold Tournament held at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball dropped an 84-69 decision to MCLA in the second day of the Williams College Purple & Gold Tip-Off Tournament held in Williamstown, Mass.
  • Morrisville struggled in the first half, shooting just 29% from the floor as they fell behind 39-29 at the break.
  • MCLA increased their lead to 12 with the first bucket of the second half, but the Mustangs rallied with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to five minutes into the period.
  • The Trailblazers took advantage of the Mustangs scoring drought over the next few minutes to regain a double-digit lead and later increased their lead to as many as 20.
  • Morrisville closed out the contest with a 7-2 spurt before the final buzzer.
  • Sakhi Shury-Muse (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, N.Y.) each posted 11 points to lead the Mustang efforts.
  • AJ Burnett (Syracuse, N.Y.) added nine points while collecting three rebounds, with teammates Bruce Wingate (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Robert Wiggins (White Plains, Md.) chipping in eight apiece.
  • Wingate also collected three steals across the afternoon.

  • Morrisville will open the home slate Wednesday as they host Utica University in a 6 p.m. non-league battle on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.
