WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball picked up a thrilling 81-80 SUNYAC win over visiting Fredonia State Tuesday evening, staving off the Blue Devils late run in the second to collect the league victory.
  • Leading by ten at the half, Morrisville increased their advantage to 13 early on, before Fredonia put together a 14-2 run that included three straight from long range to make it a one point game midway through.
  • Morrisville countered with a 10-3 spurt of their own to regain a seven point lead, increasing their advantage to as many as 16 as Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, N.Y.) hit three straight three-pointers with just under six to go on the clock.
  • The Mustangs maintained that advantage until the 3:20 mark when the visitors began to chip away with a 15-0 run to cut the lead to one with 52 ticks to go.
  • Morrisville opened the door for the visitors with seconds remaining after missing both free throw opportunities, but Avion Grainger extended a long arm and got the block on the corner three-pointer attempt with five seconds showing.
  • Fredonia had one last look at the rim in the final second of play, but the shot attempt hit off the rim and landed outside the zone in the hands of the Mustangs to secure the win.
  • Morrisville hit 50-.8% from the floor across the night, collecting a total 29 points off Blue Devil turnovers and 13 on the fast break.
  • Four posted double-figures, led by Moorehead who was lights out from beyond the arc as he drained a collegiate high seven three-pointers, en route to a collegiate best 29 points to lead the Mustang pack.
  • Moorehead also added three steals and two assists, hitting 7-of-12 from long range.
  • Jacob Works (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Kareem Sanders (Schenectady, N.Y.) each posted 12 points, Works adding steals to his totals and Sanders four rebounds and three assists.
