Morrisville women lose battle with #7 Plattsburgh

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Visiting no. 7 ranked Plattsburgh State women's hockey scored two in the third period Friday night to put the game out of reach for host SUNY Morrisville, collecting the 4-1 SUNYAC victory in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey scored a mere 1:14 into the opening period of Friday night's SUNYAC battle with visiting no. 7 nationally ranked Plattsburgh, but were unable to hold off the Cardinals as they went on to win 4-1 on the Mustangs home ice.
  • Morrisville put away their lone tally at the 1:14 mark of the first as Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) one-timed the rebound off the pads of Chloe Lewis for the 1-0 host lead.
  • Ava Waugaman (Sandy, Utah) was credited with the assist after rifling the initial shot on net.
  • Plattsburgh evened the score at one at the 16:21 mark of the first, sending the game into the intermission tied.
  • The Cardinals went ahead at 7:39 of the second with a power play goal, sneaking the puck past Elizabeth Timby (Getzville, N.Y.) and maintained the one goal distance until 15:19 of the third when they deflected their third tally into the back of the net.
  • Plattsburgh put the game out of reach for the Mustangs with an empty net, short-handed tally minutes later to secure the win.
  • Timby finished with a career high 49 saves in the loss, 23 in the second period.
  • Lewis registered the win, collecting 15.
