Morrisville men upend Oswego for first SUNYAC loss in two years

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball stunned visiting Oswego State Friday night, pulling off the upset SUNYAC win as they took down the Lakers by a final 82-64 final score in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball shocked visiting Oswego State Friday night, as they collected the 82-64 SUNYAC win over the Lakers on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.
  • The loss is the first for the Lakers dating back to December 2, 2022, halting a 34-game win streak in SUNYAC action.
  • Morrisville limited Oswego to just 31.5% shooting from the floor on the night, including a dismal 9.1% effort from beyond the arc; while putting together their own 51.6% effort from the floor across the games action.
  • The Mustangs nailed 13-of-27 three's, a 48.1% outing, also out gaining the Lakers 47-42 on the glass.
  • Kareem Sanders (Schenectady, N.Y.) led all scorers with 19 points, adding 10 rebounds for the double-double, nearly missing a triple-double performance as he dished out eight assists.
  • The senior also added two blocked shots and three steals to the Mustang efforts, as 15 of his game total 19 came in the second half of play.
  • Jacob Works (Liverpool, N.Y.) chipped in 18 points, hitting 3-of-4 from long range while hitting a total 7-of-10 shots from the floor, with another three three-pointers coming from Jon Corl (Bridgeport, N.Y.) who also snagged six rebounds and four assists to go along with 11 total points.
  • Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, N.Y.) also drained three from beyond the arc, collecting nine points to contribute to the win.
  • Steven Bradley and Arthur Foster each had 12 points in the loss for the Lakers, Bradley reining in eight rebounds.
  • Both teams played a tight opening half, until the 6:36 mark when a fast break dunk by Sanders sparked a 12-2 run by the Mustangs to go ahead 13 with just under four remaining in the period.
  • Oswego cut the deficit to eight with 1:36 showing on the clock, but Morrisville drained two three's to maintain the 38-28 lead at the break.
  • In the second, Corl nailed a three for the hosts in the opening minute, setting the tone for the remainder of the half.
  • After Oswego cut the deficit to 12, Morrisville put together an 11-5 spurt to expand the lead to 17, maintaining the significant distance to hand the Lakers the loss.

  • Morrisville will return to the court tomorrow at 4 hosting SUNY Canton in the second of the weekend's SUNYAC lineup.
