Morrisville men sweep weekend with 89-68 win over Canton

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball swept the weekend's action Saturday afternoon with a convincing 89-68 win over SUNY Canton in SUNYAC play in Morrisville, improving to 3-2 overall in league play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball completed the weekend sweep Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC play as they handed visiting SUNY Canton an 89-68 loss on their home court in Morrisville to improve to 3-2 overall in SUNYAC action.
  • Morrisville led 40-29 at the break and withstood a late Canton push to earn the win, outgaining the Roos 49-39 in the second half.
  • Jacob Works (Liverpool, N.Y.) led Morrisville with 23 points, hitting 9-of-13 from the floor while snagging five rebounds and collecting three steals.
  • Kareem Sanders (Schenectady, N.Y.) added a 21 point outing to go along with six rebounds and four assists, while teammate Yvan Fils-Aime (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added an 18 point performance off the bench, completing the double-double with 13 rebounds.
  • Fils-Aime hit 10-of-11 from the free throw line and added four blocked shots to his totals on the day.
  • Jordan Coard (Jamaica, N.Y.) chipped in six points and seven rebounds, as Morrisville dominated the glass 51-35.
  • Both teams were tied midway through the first half until a layup from Works sparked an 11-0 run that saw the Mustangs jump out in front with a 12-point lead with 6:15 to go in the period.
  • Canton was able to cut the deficit to seven with just over two minutes showing, but Morrisville was able to edge the Roos 7-3 down the stretch to claim the 40-29 lead at the break.
  • The Roos were able to close the gap to nine midway through the second half, after battling Morrisville's fast break game, but the Mustangs put together a 10-0 spurt to regain the significant advantage, increasing their lead to as many as 25 to put the game out of reach.
  • The hosts outgained the Roos in points off the bench, with Morrisville contributing a team wide effort 39 to the visitors 13.
  • Morrisville dominated the paint 46-32, and capitalized on Roo miscues for the 26-16 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • The Mustangs limited Canton to a 33.3% effort from the floor on the afternoon, while shooting 46% themselves, including going 27-of-32 from the free throw line.
