Late PK lifts Morrisville men to win over Bard

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville men's soccer netted a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon on their home turf, nailing a penalty kick late in the game to edge the visiting Bard College Raptors in non-league action.

THE BASICS:

  • Location: Drake Field, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 2-2-2, Bard 5-2-0

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Sophomore Musab Kamaldeen (Bronx, N.Y.) posted the go ahead score for the host SUNY Morrisville Mustangs in the 87th minute of play Saturday afternoon, lifting the men's soccer program to a 2-1 final score over visiting Bard College on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Bard had the opportunity to claim the game's first goal in the 32nd minute of play, but Morrisville goalkeeper Ronaldo Fatolou (New York, N.Y.) got an extended hand on the ball as he dove towards the right post to record the save and keep the visitors off the board.
  • Morrisville drew the first strike moments later after being awarded a free kick in that landed at the foot of striker Malick Gueye (Bronx, N.Y.) at the top of the box in the offensive zone.
  • Gueye had the soft touch to the right to a waiting Pedro Oliveira (Baraga, Portugal) who one touched the pass, putting the Mustangs ahead as the ball sailed across the goal like in the lower left corner of the net in the 39th minute of play.
  • In the closing minute of the first half, Morrisville had the opportunity to extend the lead to two, but the deflection went wide of the left post and sent the game into the halftime period with a 1-0 host advantage.
  • Bard evened the contest at one in the 53rd minute of action with a short chip under the cross bar and had a chance to take the lead at the 63-minute mark, but Fatolou came up with the save.
  • Morrisville made a run into their offensive box where Oliveira was brought down by a Bard defender, awarding the penalty kick to the Mustangs with under four to play.
  • Kamaldeen buried the penalty inside the right post for the 2-1 lead with 3:41 to go in the match.
  • Bard posed a threat on their ensuing possession, firing a shot at net after catching Fatalou outside the goal mouth, but the Mustangs Tariq Thompson (Hudson, N.Y.) was on the post to collect the team save and secure the win for the hosts.
  • Fatalou finished with five saves to record his first collegiate win in net for Morrisville.
