Morrisville unable to hold off Brockport in match loss

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles overcame a two set deficit Friday night as they claimed a 3-2 match win over SUNY Morrisville in the first of the tournament action at the Oswego State Invitational in Oswego.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville held a two set lead over Brockport Friday night, but were unable to hold off the Golden Eagles as they overcame the two set deficit to claim a 3-2 match win over the Mustangs in the opening round of the Oswego Tournament in Oswego.
  • Morrisville claimed 25-17 and 25-19 wins in the first and second set, respectively, before Brockport came back in the third to cut the match lead to one with a 25-20 win.
  • The Mustangs struggled in the fourth as Brockport tied the match and two sets apiece, forcing a fifth where the Golden Eagles staved off Morrisville for the 15-13 set and match victory.
  • Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) had 18 kills in the offensive effort for the Mustangs, adding 13 digs to her totals, while making three stops at the net.
  • Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.) added 12 kills to go along with seven from Samantha Siedlecki (Thorton, Colo.).
  • Siedlecki collected six blocks at the net to assist the Mustangs defensively, while Kylie Hutchinson (Liberty Hill, Tex.) added 27 digs.
  • Cassandra Bellmore (Windsor, N.Y.) had 25 assists in the match.
  • Both teams battled back and forth in the final set and entered the final six points of the match tied at 11.
  • Brockport took the one-point lead with an attack error by the Mustangs, but Huppee tied the contest at 12 with her 18th kill of the match.
  • Brockport edged Morrisville 13-12 on an service error, and extended their lead to two, before the Mustangs were within striking distance following a Golden Eagle hitting error.
  • Brockport put the match away on the ensuing match point, earning the non-league battle 3-2.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will meet Hilbert tomorrow at 2 in the second day of tourney play, before wrapping up the weekend with a match against Utica at 4.
