Morrisville sweeps three straight sets for win over SLU

CLINTON, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball team claimed a match win over St. Lawrence for a second time this season, winning three straight sets in the non-conference bout at Hamilton College in Clinton.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville began the second day of tournament action at Hamilton College Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 match win over St. Lawrence University in Clinton.
  • Morrisville, who posted their second win over the Saints this season, hit .157 collectively as a team, dominating offensive play at the net as they outgained St. Lawrence in kills 35-24.
  • Senior outside hitter Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) led the Mustangs with 17 kills, hitting .286 from the floor, while adding five aces and nine digs to her totals in the match.
  • Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.) added eight kills to go along with four from Mikayla Martinez (Tucson, Ariz.) who also contributed six digs.
  • Cassandra Bellmore (Windsor, N.Y.) and Samantha Mehler (Cumming, Ga.) combined for 28 assists, with defensive specialist Kylie Hutchinson (Liberty Hill, Tex.) adding a team high 10 digs.
  • Morrisville's closest set against the Saints was the third as each battled back and forth throughout the set.
  • Tied at 23, St. Lawrence took a one-point lead over the Mustangs with an attack error, but on the ensuing service Morrisville evened it at 24 with the error.
  • The Mustangs went ahead 25-24 in the set with an attack error at the net by the Saints, before Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) put up the ball for the match point kill by Huppee to seal the win for Morrisville.
