Morrisville opens season with five set thriller against Sage

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball team opened the 2024 season campaign Friday night with a thrilling five set victory, 3-2, over Russell Sage College in the opening match of the Mustangs kick off tournament in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville posted their first win of the young 2024 season Friday night as they downed Russell Sage College by a match final 3-2 in the opener of their kickoff tournament in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville jumped out to a two-set lead, but the Gators battled back to force a fifth and deciding set, but the Mustangs pulled out the win with a 15-10 decision to earn the match win.
  • Senior outside hitter Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) led the Mustangs with 17 kills on the night, adding five digs and three service aces to the win.
  • Fellow senior Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.) posted double-figure kills as well, putting away 12 to go along with three assisted blocks at the net and five digs, while teammate Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) added a 20 dig defensive effort in the match.
  • Cassandra Bellmore (Windsor, N.Y.) made her collegiate debut, putting up 21 assists and three assisted blocks, while collecting six kills.
  • Samantha Mehler (Cumming, Ga.) added 14 assists and four digs in the win.
  • Macey Salvione led the Gators with a 12 kill effort, serving up seven aces and posting eight digs on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Caitlin Hammecker added nine kills to go along with four aces.

  • Morrisville returns to the court for two matches in Saturday's tournament action, beginning with Alfred University at 11 a.m. in Morrisville.
