Morrisville softball drops double at SUNY Poly

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball dropped the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) double header on the road at SUNY Poly Saturday, as the host Wildcats posted the 13-1 and 12-2 wins in five innings each.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville softball dropped double-header action Saturday on the road at SUNY Poly, falling in five innings in the first 13-1 before dropping the 12-2 decision in the nightcap in Marcy.
  • In the first of the day's action, the host Wildcats posted a 13-0 lead after the bottom of the third before a single through the right side by Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) drove in Sophie Keehle (Conlin, N.Y.) who reached on a single to center field.
  • Morrisville attempted to rally in the fifth, but was unable to reach home after placing three on base in the inning.
  • Sawitzki went 2-for-2 from the plate to lead the Mustangs, while Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) and Keehle each went 1-for-3.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) recorded the loss, throwing 2.2 innings and allowing three hits, while striking out two.
  • Isabella Gaskins (Binghamton, N.Y.) finished the final 1.1 innings, allowing one hit while striking out one.
  • In the night cap, Morrisville scored two in the top of the first inning before the Wildcats matched and went on to add five more in the bottom of the third en route to the 12-2 win in five.
  • Lafontaine led off with a single down the left field line, before Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) shot a single to center field.
  • Sawitzki added a single through the right side to score Lafontaine, before Kaylor sot one to left to bat in Baldwin.
  • Morrisville struggled to get the bats rolling again, falling behind while Poly collected the win.
  • Kaylor was 2-for-2 from the plate for Morrisville, recording an RBI, while Baldwin and Sawitzki each went 1-for-2 in the contest.
  • Lafontaine was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Baldwin threw all four innings in the loss.
