Softball completes sweep of Roos, improves to 6-0 in league play

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team completed the series sweep against visiting SUNY Canton Saturday afternoon, turning aside the Roos with an 8-0, five inning win to improve to 6-0 overall in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville softball completed the series sweep with North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent SUNY Canton Saturday afternoon, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to claim the 8-0 victory.
  • Morrisville scored twice in the bottom of the second and added two more in the bottom of the fourth before adding four more runs to their total off the hot bat of senior Sophie Keehle (Conklin, N.Y.) in the bottom of the fifth inning to capture the win.
  • Keehle drove in two of her game total three RBI's in the fifth, putting together a 3-for-4 plate performance as she was honored prior to the opening pitch on senior day.
  • The senior also scored one to add to her totals, while seeing fellow teammate Jessica Budd (Fairport, N.Y.) and Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) add a 2-for-3 outing at the plate each.
  • Sara Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y.) was 1-for-2 and Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) 2-for-4 with two RBI's, while Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) recording an RBI on her one at bat, also scoring a run.
  • Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) allowed just three hits and no earned runs across the five innings on the mound to earn the win, collecting two strikeouts in 23 batters faced.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville returns to the field tomorrow, hosting SUNY Delhi in a double-header that was rescheduled from earlier in the season. The day's first pitch is scheduled for noon in Morrisville.
