Softball remains undefeated in NAC with double-header win over Delhi

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team boosted their win streak to 5-0 and remained unbeaten in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Sunday afternoon, earning the double-header victory over visiting SUNY Delhi by final scores of 14-1 (5 innings) and 6-0 in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville softball earned two more wins in league play Sunday afternoon, claiming the double header victory over visiting SUNY Delhi by a 14-1 five inning final and 6-0 nightcap in Morrisville.
  • The wins move the Mustangs to 8-0 overall in league play and extends their win streak to five to date on the season.
  • Morrisville proved tough for the Broncos in the opening frame, rolling to a 10-1 first inning lead, before adding four more in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to 14-1 after two.
  • The lone run for the Broncos came in the top of the first inning with a scoring single hit, but Morrisville from the first bat, had the hits rolling to snatch back the run and add to their totals.
  • Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) led off with a single before Sophie Keehle (Conklin, N.Y.) added with one of her own.
  • Isabella Gaskins (Binghamton, N.Y.) posted the third straight hit, driving in Lafontaine, before Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) continued the hitting streak with one that scored Keehle.
  • Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) singled to score Baldwin, before pitcher Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) hit the top of the fence to record a double to bat in Sawitzki.
  • Jessica Budd (Fairport, N.Y.) singled and Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) kept the streak going with one of her own to score Kaylor, before Lafontaine reappeared in the lineup and faced a loaded bases, smacking a second single of the inning and recording two more RBI's.
  • Keehle had a sacrifice fly to right field to score Sara Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y.) before Gaskins wrapped up the inning with a second sac fly to score Lafontaine.
  • Morrisville scored 10 on nine hits across the inning to open the gap to nine.
  • In the bottom of the second, Sawitzki led off with a single followed by a Kaylor double, before Budd and Platt added another hit to their totals on the day, increasing the Mustang lead to 12-1.
  • Gaskins doubled to score two more late in the inning, opening the gap to the eventual winning score of 14-1.
  • Kaylor went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate, smacking three doubles into the outfield, while Budd added a 2-for-2 performance as well.
  • Lafontaine, Keehle, Baldwin, Sawitzki and Platt each went 2-for-3 for a combin
  • ed seven RBI's.
  • Gaskins was 2-for-2 with a team leading four RBI's and win scored.
  • Kaylor registered the win on the mound, throwing five innings and allowing one earned run, while striking out five.
  • In the nightcap, Kaylor added two more doubles to bring her total to five on the day at the plate, as the Mustangs posted the 6-0 win over the Broncos.
  • Morrisville took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a double from Lafontaine that drove in Platt and Budd, before Platt recorded the RBI in the bottom of the fourth to add one to the Mustang lead.
  • A three run inning for the hosts in the bottom of the fifth behind a Sawitzki double and Kaylor double saw the Mustangs extend their lead to 6-0, claiming their fifth straight win to remain undefeated in league action.
  • Lafontaine went 2-for-4 and Kaylor 2-for-3 to lead the Mustangs from the plate, while Baldwin picked up the win on the mound, throwing a complete game and allowing just three hits while striking out four.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville returns to the field Friday, traveling to cross town league rival SUNY Poly for a single contest on Friday afternoon, before facing the Wildcats in a double on Saturday. Poly is currently 11-1 in league action.
