Morrisville men celebrate senior day with dominating 31-2 win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team celebrated senior day in dominating fashion Saturday afternoon as they handed visiting MCLA a 31-2 decision on Drake Field in Morrisville, collecting their fifth conference win of the season.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse improved to 5-1 within North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Saturday afternoon, handing visiting MCLA a decisive 31-2 defeat on Senior Day at Drake Field.
  • Morrisville, who rifled off 47 shots on goal on the day, was led by their senior class as they collectively posted 16 goals and 11 assists in the win.
  • Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with a collegiate high eight goals, adding a behind the back assist to fellow senior Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) who notched one tally while assisting another nine on the day.
  • Willie Burns (Cutchogue, N.Y.) added a career high as well, netting four while assisting another on the day.
  • James Graizzaro (Hillside, N.J.) notched the hat trick while defenseman Justin Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y.) added three caused turnovers to go along with four ground balls.
  • Gabe Mathews (Sharon, N.Y.) recorded the lone save for the Mustangs as he picked up the win with his first half appearance before welcoming Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) to cage in the second half.
  • Morrisville led 10-0 after the opening quarter after posting the first strike a mere 30 seconds in on the senior Patriarco-Nestor combo, before adding seven more to their totals to lead 17-0 at the break.
  • Morrisville dominated all aspects of the game, including at the center x where Ben Cooter (Tully, N.Y.) went 14-for-15, Chris Vecchiarelli (Cazenovia, N.Y.) 10-for-12, Ethan Henry (Buffalo, N.Y.) 3-for-4 and Michael Avgenikos (Cazenovia, N.Y.) 4-for-6.
