Morrisville completes series sweep of Badgers with dominating wins

JOHNSON, VERMONT – The SUNY Morrisville softball team swept the weekend action against Vermont University-Johnson Sunday afternoon, claiming dominating league wins in double-header action to take the series 3-0 over the Badgers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville softball team swept league action against the Vermont State-Johnson Badgers Sunday afternoon, dominating the double-header as they claimed NAC wins with final scores of 11-2 (5 innings) and 20-4 in Johnson, Vermont.
  • In game one of the day's action, Sophie Keehle (Conklin, N.Y.) led the Mustangs from the plate with a 3-for-3 performance, registering a run, while teammate Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) went 1-for-2 with a triple and three runs scored.
  • Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) added three RBI's and a run with her 1-for-4 effort, while Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) also collected a double and RBI with her 1-for-4 performance.
  • Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) was 1-for-3 for the Mustangs with two runs scored, also recording a double.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) recorded her second straight win on the mound, throwing five innings and posting six strikeouts with her zero earned runs allowed defensive performance.
  • Morrisville held a 1-0 lead after the opening inning, adding to their totals in the third and fourth to claim a 3-0 lead heading into the fifth where they added eight runs for the win.
  • Johnson added two to get on the board in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs posted the 5 inning victory.
  • In the nightcap, Morrisville held a 4-3 advantage after three innings of action, before adding to in the top of the fourth for a three run cushion.
  • After a scoreless fifth inning, Morrisville exploded over the course of two innings, reaching home five times in the sixth before exploding for nine more in the seventh en route to the 20-4 victory.
  • Kaylor went 3-for-5 from the plate to lead the Mustangs, registering four RBI's and two runs scored, while Platt added a 3-for-6 effort with three runs scored.
  • Baldwin was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, while Sara Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 for an RBI and run.
  • Four posted doubles int eh contest, including Baldwin and Kaylor.
  • Baldwin collected the win, throwing a complete game while registering four strikeouts and allowing four earned runs in 33 batters faced.

  • Morrisville returns to the field Tuesday, hosting Keuka College in a non-conference match in Morrisville.
