Morrisville men win crosstown battle, topple SUNY Poly 15-10

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team moved into second place within North Atlantic Conference (NAC) standings Saturday afternoon, toppling host SUNY Poly by a 15-10 final score in league action in Marcy.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville posted their second straight win and moved into second place within North Atlantic Conference (NAC) standings Saturday afternoon, toppling crosstown rival SUNY Poly by a 15-10 final score in Marcy.
  • Morrisville jumped out to an 11-3 advantage at the break and withstood a second half rally to up their league record to 3-1 overall and 4-7 to date on the season.
  • The Mustangs opened with the first three tallies of the rain-soaked day, before trading scores with the Wildcats over three minutes time, wrapping up the opening quarter with a 4-0 run over the final 2:54 of the frame.
  • They outgained the hosts 3-1 in the second to claim the eight-goal lead at the break, netting the opening score of the third before a 5-0 rally by the hosts made it a four-goal game with 4;15 to go in the third.
  • Morrisville closed out the third quarter with back-to-back strikes before adding one early in the fourth to open the gap to seven, withstanding a late Wildcat effort.
  • Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with five goals, adding an assist to his totals, while teammate James Graizzaro (Hillside, N.J.) added the hat trick with his three tallies.
  • Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) also had three tallies, while Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.) collected two.
  • Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) wrapped up all Mustang scoring with one goal and four assists.
  • Michael Avgenikos (Cazenovia, N.Y.) posted 13 wins at the center X, collecting eight ground balls, while Griffin English (Big Flats, N.Y.) led the defensive unit with one caused turnover and three ground balls.
  • Nathan Weise (Rochester, N.Y.) collected 16 saves in the in for the Mustangs, also causing a turnover.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville returns to the field Wednesday, hosting SUNY Canton in a critical league matchup on Drake Field in Morrisville. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
