McDonald nets seven, but Morrisville women fall short to Blue Devils

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team battled back and forth with the visiting Fredonia Blue Devils Saturday afternoon in rain and cold conditions, falling short at the final whistle by a 16-11 non-conference score on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville women's lacrosse battled back and forth with visiting Fredonia State Saturday, before falling short by the final whistle as the Blue Devils rallied for the 16-11 non-conference win on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Senior Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) led all scorers with seven goals, adding an assist to complete an eight point performance for the hosts.
  • McDonald also added five draw controls to her totals on the day.
  • Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) added two goals and assisted another, while Jillian Dodge (Jamesville, N.Y.) and Mary Trowbridge (Brookhaven Hamlet, N.Y.) each posted one goal.
  • Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) registered the loss in net for Morrisville, turning aside eight across all four quarters.
  • Morrisville and Fredonia matched each other in scoring after the first, with McDonald collecting the hat trick in the opening frame.
  • Fredonia jumped out to a two goal lead early in the second, before McDonald posted two straight to even the score at five.
  • Baum put the hosts ahead by one just under a minute later, but Fredonia rallied for four straight to post the 9-6 lead at the half.
  • Dodge brought Morrisville back within one, but Fredonia again answered with two straight for the four goal lead.
  • Trowbridge forced a Blue Devil turnover and snagged the loose ball for the open net score, but the visitors collected two more to open up the game 13-8 after three.
  • McDonald collected her sixth of the contest early on in the fourth, before finding Baum midway through to rally the Mustangs, but Fredonia kept the hosts off the board until closing seconds when McDonald posted her seventh off the dish from Baum.
  • Baum also posted six caused turnovers for the Mustangs, snagging five ground ball pickups, while Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) led the way with six draw control wins.

  • Morrisville returns to the field Tuesday, hosting Potsdam at 5 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville.
