Morrisville women suffer setback to Bears, 12-8

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team suffered a 12-8 setback Tuesday evening to visiting SUNY Potsdam, with the Bears outgaining the hosts 6-2 in the second half on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Potsdam out gained host Morrisville women's lacrosse 6-2 in the second half of Tuesday's non-conference match on Drake Field in Morrisville, earning the 12-8 victory over the hosts.
  • Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with three goals and an assist, collecting three ground balls and three draw controls to add to her tallies on the day.
  • Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) added two tallies and an assist alongside senior Alexa Ringgold (Bellport, N.Y.).
  • Ingersoll collected six ground balls to contribute to the battle on the ground, along with six draws, leading the defensive efforts with five caused turnovers.
  • Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) added a goal and assist to the Morrisville efforts, while Mikayla Zotta (Schenectady, N.Y.) dished out an assist.
  • Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) collected 10 stops in the loss for the hosts between the pipes.
  • Morrisville posted the first two tallies of the night as Ingersoll and Ringgold each collected one in the opening six minutes of the contest.
  • After three Potsdam tallies, Baum notched one to even it at two for the hosts, but a Potsdam score with seconds to go in the opening quarter gave the Bears the 4-3 advantage heading into the second.
  • Baum posted back-to-back extra woman tallies to regain the advantage for Morrisville, but Potsdam would pull it even at five with a strike with under two to go before the half.
  • Ringgold put away her second of the night seconds later, but as time wound down, Potsdam again would pull the contest even, sending the game into the break tied at six.
  • The Bears posted the first three tallies of the third to claim a 9-6 lead midway through before Ingersoll broke the scoring drought and notched her second of the night with 4:35 showing in the third.
  • A final strike from the Bears in the quarter sent the game into the final frame with a 10-7 visitor lead before adding to their total with at the halfway point of the fourth.
  • McDonald buried the draw and dump from Baum 50 seconds later to cut the deficit down to three, but Potsdam added one more to extend the gap to four scores, one that the Mustangs struggled to overcome.
