Mustangs post second straight victory with 8-5 win over Keystone

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team swept the days action Thursday as they rallied from behind to topple Keystone College 8-5 in the nightcap at North Myrtle Beach, in the final of spring break action in the south.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville softball picked up their second straight win as they handed Keystone College an 8-5 loss with a four-run rally in the fifth, in the nightcap on the final day of spring break action in Myrtle Beach.
  • Keystone jumped out in front 5-0 in the top of the second before Morrisville responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning with two outs to get on the board.
  • With one on base, Hailey Allen (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) advanced two runners with her single, before an error at the plate led to Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) scoring for the Mustangs first tally.
  • A passed ball led to Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) reaching home, followed by Allen adding a third for the Mustangs in the inning.
  • Keystone maintained the two-run lead until the bottom of the fifth when the Mustangs took advantage of a strong bat by Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) to move out in front.
  • Kailee Figger (New Berlin, N.Y.) led off with a single before Sophie Keehle (Conklin, N.Y.) reached base on balls.
  • Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) loaded the bases with her single, before Sawitzki stepped to the plate and smashed a double up center to score three.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) kept the rally going with an RBI to score Sawitzki, putting the Mustangs out in front 7-5 after five innings.
  • Isabella Gaskins (Binghamton, N.Y.) replaced Baldwin on the mound in the top of the sixth, and held off the Giants to send the contest into the bottom of the sixth.
  • Allen led off the inning for Morrisville with a pop fly that was dropped to reach base, before stealing second and advancing to third, in scoring position.
  • An error late in the inning scored Allen, extending the Mustang lead to 8-5 as they headed into the final frame.
  • Kaylor closed out the contest for the Mustangs on the mound, striking out two, as Morrisville collected their second straight win.
  • Platt and Lafontaine each registered two hits at the plate for Morrisville, while Sawitzki went 1-for-4 with her double for three RBI's.
  • Allen finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored, and Kaylor 1-for-3 with an RBI.
  • Baldwin threw her first win on the mound for Morrisville, striking out two in five innings pitched while allowing two earned runs.
  • Gaskins registered a strikeout and no hits in one inning thrown, while Kaylor added two K's in five batters faced.

  • Morrisville returns to the field Saturday, traveling to Lancaster Bible for a double header slated to begin at 1 p.m. in Lancaster.
