WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville softball team battled fielding errors Wednesday evening as they dropped a 5-0 decision to Haskell Indian Nations University in the nightcap of spring break action in Myrtle Beach.
  • Haskell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with back-to-back errors by the Mustangs, before adding two more in the fifth to open the lead to four.
  • Morrisville started to find their rhythm at the plate in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases, but couldn't get past the Haskell defense to add one to the scoreboard.
  • After a Haskell run in the top of the sixth, Morrisville attempted a late rally in the bottom of the inning, but again was held scoreless as the Haskell defense prevented a Mustang run.
  • Morrisville had one final attempt in the bottom of the seventh after two straight singles from Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) and Sophie Keehle (Conklin, N.Y.), but both were left on base as the defense again prevented any advancement towards home plate.
  • Lafontaine led the Mustangs at the plate with her 3-for-3 effort, while four additional teammates registered hits.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) recorded the loss, throwing a complete game and striking out three.
