Softball drops 10-3 decision to Kenyon

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team posted a 10-3 decision Wednesday afternoon to Kenyon College, on day two of spring break action in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville suffered a 10-3 loss Wednesday afternoon on day two of spring break action in Myrtle Beach, allowing three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Kenyon College collected the 10-3 victory at North Myrtle Beach Park.
  • Morrisville put the first run on the board in the opening inning as Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) doubled for an RBI that scored Sophie Keehle (Conklin, N.Y.).
  • Kenyon took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning scoring on an error, followed by a double, before adding to their totals with five additional runs over the ensuing two innings.
  • Morrisville would climb back within three in the fifth with an RBI by Sara Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y.) to score Kaylie Kendrick (Johnson City, N.Y.), before Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) crossed home after a fly ball to right field by Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) for the RBI.
  • Kenyon would add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth taking advantage of a hot hitting streak in the inning.
  • Keehle led the Mustangs at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort, while Sawitzki added a 2-for-4 performance for an RBI on two doubles.
  • Kendrick went 1-for-3 for Morrisville.
  • Isabella Gaskins (Binghamton, N.Y.) threw three innings on the mound for Morrisville in the loss, registering a strike out while facing 20 batters.
  • Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) finished the final three innings, allowing three earned runs.
