Morrisville women to extend year into post-season

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team fell in overtime Saturday afternoon to host SUNY Potsdam by a 3-2 final score, but picked up a point to earn a post-season bid to the SUNYAC tournament to continue the season.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey battled back from a two goal deficit Saturday afternoon to force the overtime period, but couldn't hold on as Potsdam collected the extra frame 3-2 win.
  • Morrisville, though, picked up a point to advance to the post-season for the first time since the 2019-20 season when they appeared in the Northeast Women's Hockey League semifinals.
  • Potsdam held a 1-0 lead after the first period, netting the contests first tally at the 18:15 mark before adding to their total 6:17 into the second with a power play score.
  • Just over a minute later Morrisville's Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) buried a power play tally to cut the lead to 2-1.
  • Kendal Kalinowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) were credited with the assists.
  • Morrisville trailed 2-1 heading into the third and evened the score at the 15:58 mark with their second power play tally of the night, this time off the stick of Leas who received the puck from Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) and Davidson for the game tying score.
  • Leas had a final shot attempt for the Mustangs in regulation but was turned aside as the contest went into extra time.
  • Morrisville had opportunities early on to put the contest away, but Potsdam was able to keep the Mustangs off the board.
  • The hosts would break the tie 3:12 into the sudden victory period with a one-timer to hand the Mustangs the loss.
  • Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) registered 28 stops in the loss in net.

  • Morrisville will be the fourth overall seed in the upcoming SUNYAC tournament, taking on top seeded Plattsburgh Saturday, February 24.
