Morrisville women close out season in SUNYAC semis

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's hockey team closed out the 2023-24 season Saturday afternoon, falling to nationally ranked no. 4 Plattsburgh State by a 5-1 final score in the SUNYAC semifinals held in Plattsburgh.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Four seeded SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey closed out the 2023-24 season campaign Saturday afternoon, falling to no. 4 nationally ranked and SUNYAC top seeded Plattsburgh State by a 5-1 final score in Plattsburgh.
  • Plattsburgh opened all scoring just 4:20 in on a Julia Masotta tally, before Masotta added her second of the contest at 10:31 for the 2-0 lead after the opening period.
  • The Cardinals extended their lead to 4-0 at the end of the second period, netting two power play scores, including a third from Masotta with one second remaining in the frame.
  • Morrisville was able to break through the Cardinal defense late in the third with a Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.) power play score to make it a three goal game off assists from Kate Mabey (Guelph, Ont.) and Kendal Kalinowski (Buffalo, N.Y.).
  • Plattsburgh, however, would net one final tally less than a minute later to regain the four-goal advantage and secure the win.
  • Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) recorded the loss, turning away 19 in two periods of action before Elizabeth Timby (Getzville, N.Y.) knocked aside 17 in the third.
  • Masotta finished with four goals on the day, while Kendall Wasik had three assists to lead the Cardinals.
  • Lilla Nease had 20 saves in the win in net for Plattsburgh, who advances to the SUNYAC final to face SUNY Cortland.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville concludes their season at 12-14-0 overall, with a program fourth appearance in the post-season, the first in the SUNYAC playoffs.
