Morrisville women drop overtime decision to Williams

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville women's hockey battled visiting Williams College to an extra frame Sunday afternoon in Morrisville, dropping the overtime decision by a 3-2 non-conference final score.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting Williams College posted the game winning tally 1:50 into the overtime period to hand host Morrisville women's hockey a 3-2 non-conference loss Sunday afternoon in Morrisville.
  • The Ephs took the early 1-0 lead with their first of the afternoon just 1:50 into the opening period, before Morrisville battled back with the equalizer 5:13 into the second.
  • Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.) crossed the puck from the right wing, connecting with Alexa Spiers (Smithtown, N.Y.) for the deflection and tying the contest at one.
  • Within minutes Williams College regained their one goal lead with a power play score, carrying the advantage into the third.
  • The hosts were able to even the score at 5:42 of the third, as Spiers won the faceoff and chipped the puck ahead to Easson for the one-timing score, evening the contest at two.
  • Williams put pressure on the Mustang defense for the remainder of the third, but freshman netminder Sydney Canham (Rochester, N.Y.) kept the Ephs from netting another as she turned aside nine across the rest of the period to force the overtime frame.
  • Williams collected the sudden victory score 1:50 into the overtime frame, not allowing the Mustangs to clear the puck from their zone, capturing the win.
  • Both teams played even throughout the contest, with Williams edging the Mustangs 42-39 in shots on goal across the day, while holding the slight 36-35 lead in faceoff wins.
  • Canham had an incredible performance in net for Morrisville in the loss, turning aside double-digit saves in each period of play, including a regulation high 18 in the second, for a game total 39.
  • Erin Pye had 37 in the win for Williams.

  • Morrisville heads into the semester and holiday break with a 5-4-0 overall record, and will resume season action January 7 as they head to Potsdam for a SUNYAC contest.
