Morrisville drops SUNYAC opener in overtime to Plattsburgh

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball forced visiting Plattsburgh State to play an extra period Friday night but couldn't overcome a late push by the Cardinals as they dropped the 91-80 overtime decision on their home court in Morrisville to open SUNYAC play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball played visiting Plattsburgh State to an extra period Friday night and forced the visiting Cardinals to earn the win from the free throw line, falling in SUNYAC action 91-80 in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville led 40-34 at the half before Plattsburgh fought back to force the extra time with a late three to tie the contest with seconds to go, but were unable to get past a 12-for-12 free throw performance by the Cardinals in overtime as they fell in league play.
  • Jordan Coard (Jamaica, N.Y.) and Jayln Moorehead (Rochester, N.Y.) came off the bench to lead the Mustangs in their efforts, Coard posting a team high 16 points as he collected a double-double with 11 rebounds, six that came on the offensive glass.
  • Moorehead added 15, hitting four three-pointers, while assisting four others, as Kareem Sanders (Schenectady, N.Y.) contributed 11 points, dishing out three assists and three rebounds as well.
  • Yvan Fils-Aime (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Avion Grainger (Syracuse, N.Y.) netted nine apiece, with Fils-Aime snagging nine boards and four blocks.
  • Kevin Tabb led Plattsburgh with 2 2points, hitting 10-of-11 free throws, while registering five steals, with another 20 coming from Nate Pondexter, who posted the double-double with 11 rebounds.
  • Franklin Infante had 19 points to go along with seven boards and five assists to round out the Cardinal leaderboard.
  • Morrisville outgained Plattsburgh 18-11 in second chance points, getting a big push from their bench with a dominating 52-21 scoring effort.
  • Both teams played even in the paint with 44 points apiece, but Plattsburgh held the edge in points off turnovers, 27-20, forcing Morrisville to give up the ball 18 times across the night.

  • The Mustangs will host Potsdam Saturday for the second of the weekend's SUNYAC action, tipping off at 4 p.m. in Morrisville.
