Morrisville men close out first half of season against Keuka

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team closed out the first half of the 2024-25 season Saturday, dropping the 64-61 non-conference decision to visiting Keuka College in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team closed out the first half of the season Saturday, hosting Keuka College on their home court, dropping the tight 64-61 decision in non-conference action.
  • Keuka edged Morrisville 31-28 in the second half of action, using 10-of-17 free throw opportunities to collect the win.
  • Jacob Works (Liverpool, N.Y.) led all scorers with 21 points, hitting 4-of-8 from long range, while adding four rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots to the Mustang efforts.
  • CJ McCullum (Bronx, N.Y.) added 15 points, just missing a double-double with nine rebounds, while also contributing six assists and three steals.
  • Kareem Sanders (Schenectady, N.Y.) had eight points alongside Chris Merlius (Nyack, N.Y.), both combining for 15 rebounds.
  • Midway through the second half Keuka put together a 10-0 run to open the slim lead to 10, but a three by Works was able to bring the Mustangs back within single digits as they battled to close the gap.
  • With Keuka leading by nine with 2:59 to go, Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, N.Y.) nailed a three from the corner, and Sanders followed with a putback in the paint to cut it to four with 2:08 remaining.
  • Two free throws by Will Tehan regained a six digit advantage with 1:40 to play, but back-to-back layups by Works brought the Mustangs within one possession with 40 ticks to go.
  • Morrisville had an opportunity to post the go ahead bucket with two seconds to go, but the shot bounced off the rim and sent Keuka to the free throw line after the Mustang foul, where they sealed the win.

  • Morrisville will return to the court January 3 after the holiday break, hosting Hartwick College at 5:30 in Morrisville.
