Team wide contribution leads to dominating win over Hartwick

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball had 11 players contribute buckets Friday evening as they toppled visiting Hartwick College 92-64 in non-conference action in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball picked up a non-conference win over Hartwick College Friday evening in Morrisville, toppling the visiting Hawks 92-64 on the Mustangs home court after getting a team wide contribution to the victory.
  • Morrisville had five net double figures, including a career high 22 from senior guard Nokio Kennedy (Yonkers, N.Y.).
  • Kennedy, who came off the bench for the Mustangs, was lights out from long range, hitting 7-of-9 from beyond the arc in just 18 minutes played on the night.
  • Kareem Sanders (Schenectady, N.Y.) added 18 points, while assisting four and taking away three, with another 12 points coming from Chris Merilus (Nyack, N.Y.) who also snagged seven rebounds.
  • Jacob Works (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, N.Y.) each had 11 points in the win; Works collecting five assists and Moorehead another seven.
  • Hartwick jumped out to a 12-7 lead early in the contest before the hosts went on a 14-0 run that included three straight from long range from Kennedy and Moorehead to open the contest to a double-digit Mustang lead midway through.
  • The Hawks were able to cut the lead to nine with 8:34 remaining in the first half, but Merilus kicked off a 12-0 Morrisville spurt to again broaden the gap, a 41-23 host lead with over five minutes before the half, opening the gap to a 44-29 advantage at the break.
  • Kennedy had five three's in the first half of play.
  • Morrisville increased their lead to as many as 27 midway through the second half, before Hartwick chipped away with a 9-0 run of their own, but the Mustangs were too strong for the visitors as they regained a 28-point lead to put the game out of reach for the visitors.
  • Morrisville outgained Hartwick 24-15 in points off turnovers and held the 42-32 advantage in points in the paint, also running wild in the fast break game with a 17-5 gain.
  • Hartwick had three in double digits, including Joey Mclaurin who collected a team high 12 while Zymier Thomas and Malachi Polson each added 11.

  • Morrisville will return to the court Tuesday, traveling to Buffalo State to resume SUNYAC play. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 PM in Buffalo.
