Morrisville women net 3-2 win over no. 12 Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey recorded their third straight victory of the young season Saturday afternoon, pulling off the 3-2 upset over recently ranked #12 Nazareth University in Rochester.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 3, #12 Nazareth 2
  • Location: Rochester, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 3-0-0, #12 Nazareth 1-1-0

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey scored once in each period of play Saturday afternoon as they toppled host Nazareth University by a 3-2 final score.
  • Morrisville held the USCHO no. 12 ranked Golden Flyers to a scoreless opening period, while posting one of their own to claim the 1-0 lead after the first.
  • Following a Nazareth penalty for too many players on the ice, the Mustangs won the faceoff in the offensive zone.
  • Meadow Clarke (Middlesackville, N.S.) chipped the puck over to fellow defenseman Tilly Couture (Bedford, N.S.) who one-timed the pass over the shoulder of the Nazareth goaltender for the power play score at the 16:21 mark.
  • Morrisville extended the lead to two six minutes into the second period, with Kennedy Kirkby (Prescott, Ont.) weaving through the defense to the center of the zone for the scoring wrister.
  • Madison Tomkins (Windsor, Ont.) was credited with the assist.
  • Abby Flanagan brough the hosts within one late in the second and added a second tally four minutes into the third to even the contest at two, but it was the persistence of the Mustang offense that once again found the hosts down.
  • Morrisville had a 3-on-2 breakway, finding Ava Waugaman (Sandy, Utah) on the left wing for the initial shot that landed in front of Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) on the crease, chipping in the eventual game winner with just over seven minutes remaining.
  • Nazareth pulled netminder McKinley Hoff with one minute showing on the clock for the extra skater, but the Mustangs fought off three Golden Flyer attempts to even the score, securing the win.
  • Morrisville goalie Elizabeth Timby (Getzville, N.Y.) turned aside one in the final 30 seconds of play to keep the hosts from tying the contest, adding to her game total 31 on the day.
  • Hoff had 14 saves in the loss.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville returns to the ice Friday, opening the SUNYAC and home schedule against Oswego State. Faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Morrisville IcePlex.
