Penalties prove costly in non-conference showdown with Knights

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Visiting Neumann University men's hockey took advantage of the extra man in Friday night's non-conference showdown with host SUNY Morrisville, netting four power play scores as they downed the host Mustangs 6-4 on their home ice in Morrisville.
THE BASICS:
  • Team Scores: Morrisville 4, Neumann 6
  • Location: Morrisville IcePlex, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 1-7-0, Neumann 5-0-2

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville dropped a 6-4 non-conference match to visiting Neumann men's hockey Friday night in Morrisville, as the Knights capitalized on Mustang penalties en route to the win.
  • Morrisville struggled on special teams as Neumann notched four power play tallies and added another in a man-down situation to hand the Mustangs the loss.
  • Neumann opened up all scoring 15:06 into the first period with a power play tally from Tyler Inlow, before adding an even strength score just over a minute later for the 2-0 lead after the opening period of play from Tony Andrews.
  • Will Jones (Corbeil, Ont.) cut the deficit to one for the Mustangs with his score 3:33 into the second period, putting away the feed from Colby Walters (Aurora, Ill.).
  • Midway through the period, Morrisville looked to even the score at two with a power play of their own, but the hosts were unable to keep the puck in their offensive zone and Neumann's Luke Croucher intercepted the pass and had the breakaway score to put the visitors up 3-1.
  • Croucher's tally was short-handed.
  • Morrisville was able to once again cut the deficit to one, this time a breakaway goal from junior Ryan Glazer (Montreal, Que.) who backhanded the chip ahead from Matt Mueller (Cambridge, Ont.) and Ethan Henry (Buffalo, N.Y.) for his first of the season.
  • Within minutes, though, Morrisville was back in the box and Neumann capitalized with their second power play score of the night, off the stick of Matt Dimaline at the 18:06 mark, sending the game into the third with a 4-2 visitor lead.
  • A strike from defenseman Noah Patrick (Barrie, Ont.) from the blue brought Morrisville back within one with a power play score of their own, but once again, that was short lived as Neumann added their fifth of the night and another power play score at 9:05.
  • Evan Miles (Chesapeake, Va.) and Glazer were credited with the assists on Patrick's tally.
  • Just over a minute after Neumann extended the lead to two, Morrisville again made it a one goal game, this time a deflection from Logan James (Belleville, Ont.) at 10:32 to make it a 5-4 game.
  • Henry picked up the assist, with a second assist being credited to Logan Robins (Livonia, Mich.).
  • Neumann added their final tally at 12:17, their fourth power play score of the night, securing the 6-4 victory as they fought off the Mustangs extra skater in the closing minute of the contest.
  • Grant Linville (Edmond, Okla.) recorded 33 saves in the loss for Morrisville in net, turning aside 13 apiece in the first and second periods of play.
  • Logan Gorbitz picked up the win with 23 stops, including nine saves in the third for Neumann.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville will host the Knights for the second of the weekend's action Saturday at 4 p.m. on their home ice in Morrisville.
