Bouchard's third period goal gives Mustangs win over Bengals

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.) put the host SUNY Morrisville women's hockey team up by one midway through the third period Friday night, giving the Mustangs the 2-1 SUNYAC win over visiting Buffalo State College in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey improved to 5-1-0 overall on the season and 2-1-0 within SUNYAC play Friday night as they topped visiting Buffalo State College by a 2-1 final score in Morrisville.
  • The Mustangs game winning tally came off the stick of senior Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.) at the 7:53 mark of the third period.
  • Tilly Couture (Bedford, N.S.) put the Mustangs on the board 13:57 into the first period, intercepting the Buffalo State pass as they attempted to clear their defensive zone.
  • Buffalo State was able to net the equalizer five minutes into the second, putting the breakaway tally past Morrisville goaltender Elizabeth Timby (Getzville, N.Y.), evening the contest at one.
  • The Bengals had the opportunity to put the go ahead score on the board in the third with a breakaway, but Timby turned aside the attempt.
  • With Buffalo State threatening to score, Morrisville moved the puck behind their own net and found an open Bouchard who was able to get the jump on the defense and put the go ahead tally into the back of the net under eight minutes into the final frame.
  • Buffalo State pulled netminder Jessica Auge with 1:38 to go for the extra skater, in an attempt to posted the game tying score, but the Mustangs defense blocked the Bengal shot and Timby turned away another, to secure the win.
  • Timby finished with 18 saves in the win between the pipes.
  • Auge collected 24 in the losing effort.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville returns to the ice Tuesday, hosting Hamilton College in a 12 p.m. Youth Day outing.
  • The outing with the Bengals was also a Make-A-Wish benefit game for the local CNY chapter, raising funds and awareness for families in need.
  • Prior to the contest, the Mustangs honored a local youth who received a wish, with the ceremonial puck drop.
