Morrisville women net overtime thriller for first SUNYAC win of season

CANTON, N.Y. – Senior forward Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.) scored just over a minute into extra time Saturday afternoon, lifting visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey to a 2-1 sudden victory overtime win over host SUNY Canton on the road in Canton.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville picked up their first SUNYAC win of the season Saturday, claiming the thrilling 2-1 overtime win over SUNY Canton on the road just a minute into the extra period.
  • Canton took the lead over the visiting Mustangs 7:58 into the first period, but Morrisville quickly responded to even the contest at one.
  • The hosts gave Morrisville their first power play of the afternoon, whistled for a hooking penalty, giving the Mustangs the woman advantage.
  • With seconds remaining on the power play, Morrisville's Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) knocked in the tying score, as Kate Mabey (Guelph, Ont.) and Kendal Kalinowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) found the open forward for the goal.
  • Both teams battled back and forth in the second and third periods of action, but couldn't get past the goaltending of each team, allowing for extra time to decide the league contest outcome.
  • Morrisville controlled the puck from the opening face-off in the overtime period, and just 1:01 into the extra frame, Hailey Easson (Okotoks, Alta.) sent the wrister over the stick of Canton's Abby Seaman for the game winning tally.
  • Tilly Couture (Bedford, N.S.) and Mabey were credited with the assists.
  • J'Anne Colbow (Weyburn, Sask.) earned the win in net for Morrisville, posting a game total 31 saves, including 11 in the third.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville returns to the ice Friday, Nov. 22 against Buffalo State for a 7 PM puck drop.
  • The contest is the Mustangs Make A Wish benefit game, an organization the women's team has been involved with for the past two seasons to assist families in the surrounding community.
