Morrisville men roll to 91-50 win for Wickliffe's first head coaching victory

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team rolled to a 91-50 win over visiting Vermont State – Lyndon Saturday evening in the opening round of the Mustangs Tip-Off Tournament in Morrisville, giving coach Bryan Wickliffe his first head coaching win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball dominated visiting Vermont State-Lyndon Saturday evening, collecting their first win of the young 2024 season with a 91-50 victory over the Hornets in the opening round of the Mustang Tip-Off Tournament in Morrisville.
  • The win is the first head coaching win for Bryan Wickliffe, who took the reins of the program in October.
  • Sixteen players contributed to the Mustangs win on the night, including three who netted double-figures to pace the hosts in the victory.
  • Jacob Works (Liverpool, N.Y.) collected a team high 18 points, with Nokio Kennedy (Yonkers, N.Y.) adding another 11 to go along with two assists and two steals.
  • Three of Kennedy's buckets came from beyond the arc.
  • Avion Grainger (Syracuse, N.Y.) also chipped in 10 points, snagging five rebounds, including three on the offensive glass, while dishing out three assists.
  • CJ McCullum (Bronx, N.Y.) and Yvan Fils-Aime (Dix Hills, N.Y.) each had eight rebounds to lead the Mustangs on the glass, contributing to the 54-40 dominating effort.
  • Morrisville limited Lydon to a 23.5 shooting effort across the contest, forcing 22 turnovers.
  • Across the contest, the hosts hit 50.7% from the floor, including 41.2 from long range, while registering a game total 46 points in the paint.
  • Sixteen of their points came off of turnovers and another 21 on the fast break.
  • Morrisville outgained the Hornets 15-4 in the opening six minutes of action Saturday, increasing their lead to as many as 23 in the first half, before taking the 42-21 advantage into the locker room at the break.
  • In nearly the same manner as the first half, Morrisville outgained the visitors 49-29 in the second half, putting away the team's first win of the season.

  • Morrisville will play Manhattanville tomorrow at 3 p.m. for the Tip-Off Championship "title" in Morrisville.
