Morrisville men open season on the road at Alvernia

READING, PA. – The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team opened the 2024-25 season Friday night on the road at host Alvernia University, falling 10-3 in non-conference action in Reading, Pennsylvania.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey allowed five first period goals Friday night in the season opener on the road at Alvernia University, dropping the 2024-25 debut by a final 10-3 in Reading, Pa.
  • Alvernia netted their first of the night nearly three minutes into the opening period, before Morrisville responded at 6:33 with a first collegiate score from Maxim Maziarchuk (Staten Island, N.Y.) to even the contest at one.
  • Will Jones (Corbeil, Ont.) was credited with the assist on the tally.
  • Within minutes, though, the hosts posted four more scores, all within a span of six minutes, to open a 5-1 lead after the opening frame.
  • Alvernia added a sixth tally four minutes into the second, before Jones posted the power play score to cut the lead to four, putting away the deflection from Andrew Manley (Whitesboro, N.Y.) at 6:53.
  • The hosts notched two more tallies to carry the significant six-goal lead into the second intermission.
  • Morrisville had momentum with a goal from Matt Mueller (Cambridge, Ont.) just 1:36 into the third, but that was short lived as Alvernia added their ninth of the night just two minutes later.
  • Mueller's score was the first of his collegiate career, with assists being credited to Manley and Noah Patrick (Barrie, Ont.).
  • Grant Linville (Edmond, Okla.) recorded 15 stops in net in the first period, registering the loss, before being relieved by Will Goumas (Brampton, Ont.) for the second.
  • Goumas added six saves to the Mustang efforts in the frame, before Jeff Dreger (Senoia, Ga.) saw time in net in the third.
  • Dreger had 10 saves in the final period for Morrisville.

  • Morrisville will faceoff against Lebanon Valley College tomorrow afternoon. Puck drops at 4 p.m. in Hershey.
