Morrisville sweeps Oswego in Saturday SUNYAC action

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball team posted their second straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win Saturday afternoon, downing visiting SUNY Oswego by a 3-0 match final in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball picked up their second straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory Saturday afternoon, posting the 3-0 match win over visiting SUNY Oswego in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville, who edged the Lakers 25-20 in the opening set, played a close match with the visitors, claiming the match sweep with set wins of 25-21 in the second and 25-23 in the third to improve to 2-0 in league play.
  • Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) led the Mustangs with 13 kills, while fellow senior Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.) collected eight at the net.
  • Cassandra Bellmore (Windsor, N.Y.) recorded five, assisting 24, while collecting seven digs.
  • Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) had 26 digs in the defensive efforts, with another seven coming from freshman Kylie Hutchinson (Liberty Hall, Tex.) who also had a service ace.
  • Mikayla Martinez (Tucson, Ariz.) served up two aces for the Mustangs.
  • Oswego made a late run in the opening set, erasing an eight-point deficit, but the Mustangs were able to secure the win with blocks from Huppee and Samantha Siedlecki (Thorton, Colo.) at the net.
  • In the second, Oswego used a three-point run late in the frame to make it a one-point set, but Morrisville posted back-to-back kills from Huppee and Olson, before sealing the set win with an ace from Bellmore.
  • Holding the 2-0 match lead, Morrisville trailed by as many as five in the third set but rallied with the play of their senior front to even the set at 18.
  • Martinez found the hole on the ensuing service to put the hosts up one, but Oswego responded to tie the set at 19.
  • Both teams were locked at 21 points each, before Morrisville went ahead with the hitting error by the Lakers.
  • The Mustangs extended the lead to two, before Olson threw one to the court to put the Mustangs up 24-21.
  • A long serve made it a 24-22 set advantage, and the Mustangs put the match away with an attack from Olson on the left that was tipped by the Laker defense.
  • Morrisville hit a combined .155 from the floor on the afternoon, limiting Oswego to a .041 effort.
  • Kalley Vugteveen had 11 kills, Mya Bush 14 assists and Lauren Cropp 21 digs in the Laker efforts.

  • Morrisville returns to the field Friday, traveling to Potsdam to continue league action, before meeting Plattsburgh on Saturday.
