Morrisville women resume action in 2024 with 5-0 shut out over Alvernia

READING, PA – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team resumed season action Tuesday afternoon, toppling host Alvernia University by a 5-0 final score in the first game back since the holiday break, improving their record to 7-5-0 overall.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey team scored three times in the second and added two more in the third to topple host Alvernia University by a 5-0 final score Tuesday afternoon in Reading, Pennsylvania.
  • It was the first outing for the Mustangs since the holiday break, wasting little time in the second as a tally from Madison Tomkins (Windsor, Ont.) 2:55 in broke the scoreless tie between the two programs and gave Morrisville the 1-0 edge.
  • Kennedy Kirkby (Prescott, Ont.) and Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) were credited with the assists on the eventual game winner.
  • Shy of two minutes later, Tomkins put away a second for a 2-0 advantage as Kirkby and McDonald fed the junior for the tally, before McDonald picked up one of her own at the 9:56 mark to give the visitors the commanding three goal lead midway through the period.
  • Emma Thompson (Ingleside, Ont.) and Tomkins earned the assists on the score.
  • Captain Kate Mabey (Guelph, Ont.) extended the lead to four 11:55 into the third with her rifle off the chip from Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.).
  • Easson notched the final score for Morrisville at the 14:22 mark, breaking away for the shorthanded goal to put the Mustangs ahead by five.
  • Emma Plett (Grunthal, Man.) collected her first win of the season in net for Morrisville, turning away all 11 looks Alvernia had on net on the day to earn the shut out victory.
  • Morrisville outgained Alvernia 44-11 in shots on goal.
