Women record 3-2 thriller over Canton for fourth straight win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Junior Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) chased down the loose puck with under a minute to go and sent it flying towards net, ricocheting off the visiting SUNY Canton netminder for the game winner as SUNY Morrisville women claimed a thrilling 3-2 win Friday night in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville collected a thrilling 3-2 SUNYAC win Friday night on their home ice, netting the game winner with under a minute to go in the contest to hand Canton the SUNYAC defeat in Morrisville.
  • The win is the fourth straight for the Mustangs and their eighth overall on the season as they improve to 8-5-0 and pull even in the SUNYAC at 3-3-0.
  • Morrisville pressured the Canton net in the closing minutes of the contest and with under one to go, junior forward Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) chased down the loose puck on a Canton clear attempt on the right-hand side of the zone.
  • Davidson sent it flying back towards the mouth of the goal, where it ricocheted off the Roo netminder into the back of the net for a 3-2 host lead with 58 seconds to go in the contest.
  • Canton attempted to even the score as they were granted a power play and pulled the goaltender for the extra skater with 38 seconds to go, but the Mustangs cleared the puck out of the zone twice to secure the win.
  • Canton scored the first of the game 2:54 in, before a tally by Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) at 13:41 pulled the Mustangs even after one.
  • The Roos would take a 2-1 lead midway through the second with the wrister, carrying the advantage into the final period of the league battle.
  • Morrisville once again evened the score, netting the tying tally just over a minute into the third, poking in the loose puck just outside the crease.
  • Both teams battled back and forth throughout the remainder of the period until the Mustangs overwhelmed Canton late in the third, collecting the game winner with 57.3 seconds remaining.
  •  Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) recorded 32 saves in the win, 14 in the second period of play.
  • Molly Lenihan had 35 in the loss as Morrisville outshot Canton 38-34.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will return to the ice next weekend, traveling to #4 nationally ranked Plattsburgh State for a weekend double. Puck drops at 3 p.m. on Friday and again on Saturday.
