Morrisville women topple Cobleskill 4-1

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's soccer team scored four first half goals Saturday afternoon, handing visiting SUNY Cobleskill a 4-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) loss on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville improved to 2-0-1 overall in league play Saturday as they handed visiting SUNY Cobleskill a 4-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) loss on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) had a big outing for the Mustangs, collecting points on every score, including three that she fired into the back of the net herself.
  • Morrisville's first tally came midway through the opening period as a Cobleskill defender took down a Mustang striker in the box, setting up a penalty kick by Lafontaine at the 26:05 mark for the early 1-0 lead.
  • Within minutes, Lafontaine connected with Jozlyn Dolan (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) for the 2-0 lead, before Lafontaine struck again four minutes later rifling one into the lower left corner for a three goal advantage.
  • Lafontaine completed the hat trick with her third tally of the half, netting the unassisted score at 40:55 to send the Mustangs into the half with a commanding four goal lead.
  • Cobleskill was able to get one on the board late in the second to cut the deficit to three, but it wasn't enough to get past the hosts, as they earned the league win.
  • Melanie Rott (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) registered the win in net, appearing for 68 minutes before Cadence Santiago (Davenport, N.Y.) finished out the final 22 minutes, allowing one goal.
  • Cobleskill's lone goal came off the foot of Miah Lathrop in the 71st minute.
  • Morrisville held the 39-2 advantage in shots, and 7-0 lead in corner kicks on the afternoon.

  • Morrisville returns to the pitch Wednesday, hosting SUNY ESF at 5 p.m. on Drake Field.
