Morrisville Wins Season Opener in 5 sets

 

Morrisville, N.Y. - The SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball team captured a 3-2 match win Friday night in thrilling fashion, taking visiting Widener to the fifth set where the Mustangs took the win with a 16-14 set finale.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • SUNY Morrisville's strong attack would lead to two wins early as the Mustangs finished with 17 kills in set one and 15 kills in set two.

  • Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex) had a big match for host SUNY Morrisville as she finished with 26 kills, while teammate Keelin Baker (Vestal, N.Y.) added 15 and Kayci Olson added 8 at the net.

  • Hannah Taylor (Goshen, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 39 assists while Samantha Mehler (Cumming, Ga) finished with 5.

  • Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) put up big numbers for Morrisville defensively, registering 21 digs, while Baker added 11.

  • The SUNY Morrisville Mustangs finished with 9 aces, Olson led the team with 4 aces, while Kathryn Dolan (Quincy, Ca) finished with 2.

  • Widener University rallied with wins in the 3rd and 4th set to force a 5th set.  Lilyanna Martucci led the visitors with 11 kills, while Abigail Herrin finished with 10 kills.

  • Megan Barthol had 30 assists, while Martucci collected 12 digs for the Lions.

  • The SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball team returns to action on Saturday September 2nd when they face off against Johnson & Wales University at 11 AM and Geneva College at 3 PM.
