Mustangs Split on Day Two of Opening Tournament


Morrisville, N.Y. - The SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball picked up a victory in the opening match as they took down Johnson & Wales University 3-1.  In the second match of the day the Mustangs would suffer their first loss as Geneva College would pick up the win 3-1.

 

THE BASICS:

  • Final Score Match One: SUNY Morrisville 3, Johnson & Wales 1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 25-12).

  • Final Score Match Two: SUNY Morrisville 1, Geneva College 3 (26-24, 18-25, 30-32, 14-25).

  • Location: SUNY Morrisville, Morrisville, N.Y.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Against Johnson & Wales, the teams would split the first two sets, but the Mustangs would end strong winning the last two sets, dominating the 4th set 25-12.

  • Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex) and Keelin Baker (Vestal, N.Y.) would lead the Mustangs in kills during both Matches.  Huppee would finish with 21 and 19 kills while Baker finished with 16 and 17 kills.

  • Hannah Taylor (Goshen, N.Y.) would lead the Mustangs with 31 assists in match one while finishing with 17 assists in match two.  Against Geneva Samantha Mehler (Cumming, Ga) would lead the Mustangs with 18 assists.

  • Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) had another strong day on defense as she finished with 17 digs against J&W and 19 digs against Geneva.

  • Sheasby would also finish with 4 serving aces against Geneva, while teammate Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.) finished with 4 serving aces against Johnson & Wales.

  • The SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball team returns to action on Sunday September 3rd when they host PSU-Behrend at 11 AM.
