Morrisville men pick up 10-8 win over New Paltz Sunday night

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team used a four-goal third quarter to claim a 10-8 non-conference win over visiting SUNY New Paltz Sunday evening in Morrisville, upping their record to 3-1 overall on the young season.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville collected a 10-8 non-league win over visiting SUNY New Paltz Sunday evening, improving their record to 3-1 on the young season with the win in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville led 6-4 at the break before netting four in the third to pull away from the Hawks for the 10-5 lead after three.
  • New Paltz added three tallies in the fourth, but it wasn't enough as Morrisville picked up the league win on their home turf.
  • Six different Mustangs contributed to the scoring, with another two picking up points in assists on the night, including Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) who led Morrisville with three goals.
  • Evan Kistner (Fulton, N.Y.) added two scores of his own to go along with an assist for three points, while teammate Kyle Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) registered two goals.
  • James Graizzaro (Hillside, N.J.) registered one, alongside Chris Picciott (Brewerton, N.Y.) and Nicholas DeNicola (Southold, N.Y.).
  • Dylan Laplace (Chester, Conn.) added two assists and Curtis Robitaille (Endwell, N.Y.) one to contribute to the win.
  • Laplace collected 10 stops in net for Morrisville between the pipes, earning his third win of the season.
  • Morrisville edged New Paltz 34-26 in the battle on the ground, as Farrell picked up a Mustang high nine ground balls to go along with four caused turnovers.
  • Graizzaro added six ground balls and Zack Mabry (Suffern, N.Y.) five to go along with his six caused turnovers on the defensive end of the field.
  • New Paltz registered the first three tallies of the contest before a DeNicola unassisted tally sparked the Mustang offense at the 5:47 mark.
  • Within seconds, Kistner added one of his own and Patriarco a third Mustang score to cut the deficit to one after the opening quarter.
  • Morrisville carried momentum into the second where they posted all three scores, a second from Kistner who buried the field length clear from Laplace at the 11:56 mark.
  • Graizzaro added one of his own with 5:43 to go, before Morrisville again struck with a play initiated by the defense in a caused turnover by Farrell that led to a clearing score down center for the 6-4 lead at the half.
  • New Paltz was able to get one back early in the third, but Morrisville rattled off four straight.
  • Patriarco put away the dish from Kistner at the 11:07 mark before Picciott collected the rebound for the quick shot on crease at 7:58.
  • Patriarco extended the lead to four with his unassisted score at 6:06 and the Mustangs quarter play was emphasized by a three-quarter field length score from the senior defenseman, Farrell off the goal scoring clear initiated by Laplace.
  • New Paltz would add three extra man scores in the fourth but Morrisville limited looks on net as they caused three additional turnovers to secure the win.
