Morrisville men drop 10-6 decision to Bears

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team had six tally goals Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as they dropped a 10-6 non-league decision to visiting SUNY Potsdam on Drake Field in Morrisville.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 6, Potsdam 10 (halftime: Potsdam 5-3)
  • Location: Drake Field, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 4-3, Potsdam 4-1

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville had six collect goals Saturday afternoon, but they were unable to get past visiting SUNY Potsdam as the Bears collected the 10-6 non-league win on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • With the loss, Morrisville falls to 4-3 to date on the season.
  • Morrisville held the 44-34 advantage in shots on the day but had no answer for the Potsdam goalkeeper who turned away 23, including 10 in the third quarter, for the win.
  • Dylan Laplace (Chester, Conn.) registered eight stops in the loss, recording an interception and collecting three ground balls.
  • Morrisville also won the battle on the ground, 38-30, as defenseman Zack Mabry (Suffern, N.Y.) picked up a team high seven, adding two caused turnovers in his efforts.
  • Michael Avgenikos (Cazenovia, N.Y.) collected six ground balls, winning 11-of-20 at the center faceoff x for the Mustangs.
  • Luke Strong (Rochester, N.Y.) led Morrisville's offensive efforts with a goal and two assists, netting the first of the afternoon for the hosts at the 9:25 mark of the opening quarter.
  • Potsdam posted the first tally of the day minutes after the opening whistle, and following Strong's goal went on a four score run to open the contest to 5-1 with 4:28 remaining in the second quarter.
  • Chris Picciott (Brewerton, N.Y.) broke the scoring drought for Morrisville, putting away the feed from Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) with 3:04 to go, before James Graizzaro (Hillside, N.J.) notched his fourth of the season off the dish from Strong sending the game into the halftime break with the Mustangs trailing 5-3.
  • Potsdam regained a three-goal advantage midway through the third, but an extra man score by Evan Kistner (Fulton, N.Y.) off the rebound brough the hosts back within two with 1:42 showing on the clock in the third.
  • The Bears, though, added two in the final minute of the frame, doubling the Mustangs to head into the fourth with the 8-4 advantage.
  • An early strike from Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) to Patriarco at 13:18 cut the deficit to three, but Potsdam responded with an unassisted tally three minutes later to regain the four-goal advantage.
  • Nicholas DeNicola (Southold, N.Y.) added to the Mustang scoring with his fast break tally off the caused turnover by Strong at the 8:13 mark, but despite pressure from the Morrisville offense, Potsdam was able to keep the hosts off the board for the remainder of the contest as they collected the non-conference win.
