Morrisville posts five unanswered in second half to down Delhi 8-5

DELHI, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team posted their second straight win of the early season Sunday afternoon, scoring five unanswered tallies in the second half to hand the host SUNY Delhi Broncos the 8-5 loss in Delhi.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville collected their second straight win of the young lacrosse season Sunday afternoon, posting the comeback victory as they claimed the 8-5 win over host SUNY Delhi in Delhi.
  • Both teams played back-and-forth in the opening quarter, netting two goals apiece.
  • Delhi put the first tally of the afternoon on the board 1:24 into the contest, before Daniel Squires (Aquebogue, N.Y.) pulled the game even two minutes later with his unassisted tally.
  • Following a Bronco strike seconds later, James Graizzaro (Hillside, N.J.) sent the game into the next quarter with a second Mustang score.
  • Willie Burns (Cutchogue, N.Y.) gave the Mustangs their first lead of the contest early in the second, putting away the feed from Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.), but Delhi was quick to counter and added their fourth tally for the 4-3 lead midway through the frame.
  • Delhi's 4-3 advantage carried into the halftime break, but Morrisville shifted the tables in the third, netting three unanswered scores, the first from Squires for his second of the game a mere 25 ticks into the third.
  • Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) gave Morrisville the 5-4 advantage with 1:17 to go in the third, before adding another 20 seconds later for the 6-4 Mustang lead.
  • Delhi was able to get one back at the 7:58 mark of the fourth, but Squires notched his third of the day for the hat trick, giving the visitors the two-goal advantage.
  • Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) sealed the win with a final strike for Morrisville, putting away the diving score with 2:53 remaining, securing the 8-5 Mustang win.
  • Dylan LaPlace (Chester, Conn.) collected the win between the pipes, registering 10 stops.
  • Michael Avgenikos (Cazenovia, N.Y.) picked up seven ground balls for the Mustangs to lead the efforts on the turf, posting 11 face-off wins.
