Kulakowski nets 19 in loss to St. Mary's

St. Mary's City, Md. – SUNY Morrisville sophomore guard Brandon Kulakowski (Brewerton, N.Y.) paced the visiting Mustangs with 19 points, nearly netting a double-double as he snagged nine rebounds, but the visitors fell short as host St. Mary's College collected the 82-74 United East win in Friday night's league play in Maryland.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball fell short in Friday night's United East battle against St. Mary's College, 82-74, despite four netting double figures for the Mustangs on the night.
  • Sophomore Brandon Kulakowski (Brewerton, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 19 points and added nine rebounds, while recording four assists, as he shot 3-for-6 from behind the arc.
  • Shykell Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) and Jordan Coard (Jamaica, N.Y.) each collected 12, while Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 10, while assisting another four.
  • Morrisville put together an 11-1 run midway through the opening quarter to claim a double-digit lead, but the Seahawks shot their way back into the contest to shift the momentum in their favor as they went on a 16-3 run before closing out the half with a three for the four-point advantage at the break.
  • In the second, both teams battled back and forth, maintaining a one possession striking distance, but three straight hoops by the Seahawks found the Mustangs trailing by eight midway through.
  • Morrisville chipped away at the lead and following a three-ball by Smith with 1:04 remaining, trailed 72-75.
  • St. Mary's hit two free throw's to extend the lead to give with 46 ticks to go, and following a Morrisville turnover, added two more for the seven point advantage.
  • Smith collected two from the charity stripe down the stretch, but a fast break layup in the closing seconds by St. Mary's sealed the victory for the hosts.

  • Morrisville returns to the court Saturday, traveling to Washington, D.C. to meet league foe Gallaudet in the regular season finale. Tip is scheduled at 3 p.m.
