Morrisville men net three in loss to no. 7 Plattsburgh

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's hockey team put three in the back of the net Wednesday night, but couldn't overcome visiting and USCHO ranked no. 7 SUNY Plattsburgh as they fell 5-3 in SUNYAC play in the home finale for the Mustangs.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 3, Plattsburgh 5
  • Location: Morrisville IcePlex, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 7-17-0, 3-12-0 SUNYAC; Plattsburgh 18-5-2, 12-2-1 SUNYAC

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville tallied three goals Wednesday night in a loss to no. 7 ranked SUNY Plattsburgh, posing a third period comeback attempt, but fell short as the Cardinals collected the 5-3 SUNYAC win on the Mustangs home ice.
  • Holding to a scoreless contest midway through the first, Plattsburgh was first to put one in the back of the net, taking advantage of the power play opportunity at the 10:23 mark for the 1-0 lead.
  • They added a second at 15:20 to go ahead 2-0, but a rebound wrister from Chris Mott (Nesconset, N.Y.) 1:22 later cut the visitor lead to one and gave the hosts their first tally of the night.
  • Jestin Somero (New Ipswich, N.H.) was credited with the assist after the initial shot on net.
  • Plattsburgh posted three to pull ahead 5-1 after two periods, but Morrisville would pose a threat in the third, as Michael Keating (Burlington, Ont.) collected his first collegiate goal just four minutes in to spark the Mustangs play on ice.
  • James Farmer-Valente (Mississagua, Ont.) and Mott were credited with the assists.
  • Curtis Abbott (Belmont, Ont.) poked one in at the 17:22 mark to cut the Cardinal lead to two, netting the score off the assist from Cameron Clark (Daytona Beach, Fla.) before the Mustangs pulled netminder Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) for the final two minutes of the contest for the extra skater.
  • Morrisville controlled the tempo in the final two minutes but were unable to break through the Cardinals defense as Eli Shiller turned away seven in the closing two minutes to prevent the Mustangs from netting another score.
  • Boyonoski registered 44 saves in net in the loss, 17 in each the first and second periods of play as Plattsburgh fired 50 on the Mustang net.
  • Shiller had 22 in the win.
